Kia ora te whanau o Te Kura a Rohe o Whaingaroa

Wet Weather

If your water-tanks were getting low then your prayers were answered and for the rest of us it was just plain wet, so the current fine spell is particularly enjoyable. The wet weather led to several cancellations for sports and we apologize for any inconvenience that may have caused. I have also noted a surprising number of our students who are arriving wet to school or going home through the rain without coats. Perhaps they could be encouraged to pull them out of hiding and wear them as it makes for a miserable start to the day to be wet and cold.

Matua Tipene leaving Te Roopu Aroha ki te Reo

Matua Tipene, who is currently the Lead Teacher in Te Roopu Aroha ki te Reo, is leaving Raglan Area School at the end of Term One to commence a new role with ERO (Education Review Office) that will bring him new career challenges. We wish him all the best with his new mahi. An advertisement for this vacancy has been placed in the Educational Gazette and an appointment process is under way. At the conclusion, further details will be advised to you. It is hoped that we will have a person in place from the beginning of Term Two.

Wester Cluster Interschool Swimming Sports

Our students represented us at the Western Cluster interschool swimming event and were well behaved, competitive, and gained pleasing results. Our thanks to all who supported them with transport, coaching and planning.

Seeking a Year 9 Teacher

We are also advertising for a Year 9 teacher as this class has grown very large and we expect to be able to have two classes going forward that will work flexibly to provide the best opportunities for all students. Whanau of those students affected have been advised.

Roll Data Sent To The Ministry of Education

March 1st Roll data has been collated and sent off to the Ministry and we should hear before the end of the month the entitlement roll and staffing for 2017. This roll fixes the staffing for the whole of 2017 and also impacts on the Operational Grants for the BOT.

Roopu Trip to Maketu Marae, Kawhia

The Roopu travelled to Maketu Marae at Kawhia to attend the Poukai and I was privileged to travel with them. The whole experience was wonderful and I was proud to see our senior students working in the kitchens, at the table and in other roles supporting this kaupapa.

Thanks To Parents and Students

Thanks to all those of you who have recently supported class trips and given generously of your time. These events often form the memorable moments for our students and provide impetus for classroom activities and engagement. We are delighted to see our young people giving new challenges a go and being involved in our environment and larger communities.

Thanks to our senior students who supported Te Mata School at their recent Beach Day. I know that their presence and support was appreciated.

Nga mihi

Malcolm
