Day 1 of the challenge is Thursday 18 June 2015 and then every school day until the end of term. On the last day of term, Thursday 2 July, which is Day 10 of the challenge, come to the Te Rapunga at lunchtime to do a personal best quiz and enjoy a free concert in the courtyard!

For the the personal best quiz, Matua Anaru will call out the 50 words in Te Reo Māori and you can write down the answer in Te Reo Māori and English. If you have lived in Whaingaroa all your life, you will know most of them already, so go ahead and get all 50 correct! If you don’t know any Te Reo Māori, then here’s your chance to learn some simple words, and just see how many you can learn before the end of term! Invite your family and teachers to do the challenge too!

What are those 50 words? They are the words that have been going up around the school each week over the last year. You’ll find a complete list of the 50 on:

  • the day by day list below (if you click on MP3 – you can hear the word spoken and the ‘PDF” will give you the word in a sentence!) and
  • a Word document listing the Te Reo Māori words only: Māori Language Challenge – 10 day list
  • the insert in last week’s school newsletter, and
  • the walls of Te Rapunga and
  • the website Te Kupu O Te Wiki

Watch out too for daily videos of each word from our school community on this website under school news! If you sign up, we’ll send you a link each day for these unique organic videos of your mates and teachers!

To sign up for the challenge, sign up on the sheet at the library’s front desk or email jane_rushton@raglanarea.school.nz,  as soon as you can. You still welcome to come to the final quiz on Thursday 2 July 2015, even if you don’t sign up, but let us know if you’re coming by 30 June 2015! The more people, the merrier – here’s your chance!

Arohatia Te Reo Māori” ,  for Matariki especially!
