I hope that you are all enjoying this Easter Break. For many, Easter is a symbol of hope, renewal and new life. And like all of you, I have been heartened by the positive way that our Raglan Community has been responding to the COVID 19 situation. I have been watching and appreciating the many and varied ways that we are connecting with each other while remaining safe and strong in our “bubbles”.

ONLINE LEARNING:

It is our pleasure to continue working with our students – albeit, in a different way. We will officially begin to deliver our ONLINE LEARNING programme for all of our students this Wednesday 15 April 2020. Teaching staff have already begun connecting with students and their families via phone or online in the past week as we all strive to stay together in this new learning environment.

WHERE TO LOOK:

The most up to date information and links to our ONLINE LEARNING programme for all years is available now on the homepage of our website. Select the appropriate links for each of your child(ren)’s year.

ADDDITIONAL RESOURCES:

  1. We are also sending home a hard copy pack of teaching activities / tasks on Monday 13 April which will be delivered to your postbox.Look for this later in the afternoon or on the morning of Tuesday 14 April. This pack is being provided to support all families as an additional learning resource. We also understand that for some families who are having difficulty accessing the internet and/or devices this will be their primary resource. For these families teaching staff will endeavour to do their best to make and maintain phone contact.
  2. The Ministry of Education is building up the resources it provides on the Learning from Home (linked here) and Ki te Ao Mārama (linked here) websites
  3. The Ministry of Education has also linked with two TV channels, one for English medium schooling and one for Māori medium, starting on 15 April. The broadcasts will run over six and a half hours during the day, and include specialised content for:
  • Early learners,
  • Parents, to help them support their children’s education,
  • A broad curriculum that includes movement, music, physical education, wellbeing, numeracy, literacy and science through an integrated approach to curriculum,
  • An hour of Te Reo Māori, and
  • Pacific and other communities.

We are all undergoing steep learning curves and I urge everyone to exercise patience and understanding as we move into this online learning space. Please feel free to make contact with me directly via this email principal@raglanarea.school.nz if you have any concerns.

Ngaa mihi nui – Louisa Barham (Tumuaki/Principal)
